Oriental SaltLake Resort

Information

Oriental Salt Lake Resort is located on Maoshan Fangxian Road, Maoshan Tourism Resort, Jintan District, Changzhou City, Jiangsu Province, covering an area of 27.8 square kilometers. As China’s first landscape cultural tourism and vacation destination, it integrates themes such as leisure and vacation, cultural exhibition, interactive experience, and mountain sports.

In March 2016, Oriental Salt Lake Resort officially opened to the public. With the first-phase “Daotianxia Scenic Area” as the core, and Maodong Style Town, Mountain Sports Park, and Dao Health Preservation Leisure Park as the three supporting zones, it is a national-level comprehensive leisure and health tourism resort featuring unique landscape resources. The first-phase “Daotianxia · Xiaoyao Mountain Town” covers 1,000 mu (approximately 66.67 hectares), including eight experience courtyards inspired by the Eight Trigrams. Nearly 20 museums scattered throughout form China’s largest experiential cultural museum cluster. The mountain town also offers a variety of research and study experiences such as intangible cultural heritage (ICH) paper-cutting, colorful salt painting, and talisman drawing for blessings. Additionally, more than 30 folk art performances are staged daily, including the hilarious kung fu comedy Hip-Hop Dao and the audio-visual spectacle Ode to Dao, which integrate local geography and folk culture.

Based on ancient Chinese understanding of cosmic origin and natural composition, the town takes the I Ching (Zhouyi) and the Eight Trigrams—root of Chinese culture—as its creative core. It is activated through the planning concept of “Tai Chi generates Yin and Yang; Yin and Yang generate the Four Symbols; the Four Symbols generate the Eight Trigrams,” supported and transformed by five major systems: treasures, deities, landscape architecture, host-guest interaction, and operation. Combined with the Eight Trigrams culture (Qian, Kun, Kan, Li, Zhen, Xun, Gen, Dui), the town has planned and constructed tourism projects such as one Taoist temple, eight courtyards, and Daoist Style Street.

Oriental Salt Lake Resort has successively won titles including “National 4A-Level Tourist Attraction,” “China Photography Creation Base,” “National List of Preferred Projects for Integration of Intangible Cultural Heritage and Cultural Tourism,” and “Overseas Exchange Base for Chinese Culture.”
